Are Saggy Eyelids Impairing Your Vision? Consider an Eyelid Lift

Featured Image

As we age, our skin starts to lose its elasticity and can start to wrinkle and sag in unpredictable ways. Specifically, when the eye muscles weaken, and the eyelids start to stretch, excess and flappy skin can develop. While many consider cosmetic eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, for cosmetic reasons, there are also other considerations to worry about as well, such as extra skin impairing your vision. If you feel like extra skin around your eyes is blocking your line of sight, schedule a consultation at VIP Cosmetic Surgery in Hilton Head or Okatie, SC with board-certified ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeon Dr. Kenneth D. Farr to see if a cosmetic eyelid procedure is right for you.

What is an eyelid lift?

An eyelid lift is a cosmetic surgery intended to reduce and rejuvenate the excess skin in the lower and/or upper eyelids. Both men and women can benefit from this anti-aging procedure to get that softer, younger look and remove any skin that may be impairing vision. Cosmetic eyelid surgery not only improves the facial appearance but it can also improve functionality. After your consultation, Dr. Farr can determine if you need an upper eyelid lift, lower eyelid lift, or both.

How long does an eyelid lift procedure take?

Depending on your situation, an eyelid lift typically takes two hours to complete. Performed by Dr. Farr at our state-of-the-art facility in Hilton Head or Okatie, SC, patients may receive general anesthesia or IV sedation. For the upper eyelid procedure, a slight incision is made at the lash line to remove excess skin. On the lower eyelid procedure, an incision is made just below the lash line to remove excess fat, and then we will lift the skin for a smoother, tighter appearance. After your surgery, Dr. Farr will urge you to rest for a few days. Because there will be slight swelling and bruising, ice packs can reduce the discomfort. Over-the-counter pain relievers can also help.

How long do results from an eyelid lift last?

While father time stops for no one, the results from your cosmetic eyelid surgery can last for at least ten years. To enhance the anti-aging effects of your eyelid lift, there are many different options available at VIP Cosmetic Surgery in Hilton Head and Okatie, SC to keep that fresh and rejuvenated facial look, including chemical peels, fillers, and laser treatments.
