The Top Choice for Semaglutide in Spartanburg, SC

Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that modern Americans are much fatter than they were just a few decades ago. Take one look around a shopping center or strip mall and it seems that half the people present are struggling with obesity. Recent data from the CDC supports those observations - more than 39% of adults in the United States were considered obese from 2015-2016. That number is up from 33.7 percent in 2007-2008.

Perhaps more alarming is the fact that severe obesity is on the rise as well. The same report from the CDC tells us that nearly 8% of Americans were severely obese from 2015-2016, which is up from 5.7% in 2007-2008. When you read between the lines, those statistics mean that almost 4 in 10 adults are obese in the U.S., and almost 1 in 13 are severely obese.

Unfortunately, "fixing" obesity isn't something that can be done overnight. There is no quick fix that is also safe and non-surgical. The obesity problem in the U.S. is only getting worse as more adults and children choose the ease and convenience of fast food sugar-packed products over healthy eating, exercise, and positive lifestyle choices.

How Does Semaglutide in Spartanburg, SC Work So Well?

For individuals working to lose weight and stay healthy, sticking to a consistent diet and exercise routine can be tough. Between work obligations and important tasks like picking your kids up from school, there just doesn't seem to be enough time in the day to eat healthy foods. After all, McDonald's is on the way home, and your little ones are screaming for food.

Fortunately, many busy people find semaglutide to be a valuable tool in their weight loss journey. This FDA-approved injection, used for treating both diabetes and obesity, functions by activating GLP-1 receptors in the brain to aid in weight loss and promote long-term health.

In more simple terms, semaglutide imitates glucagon in the body, signaling to the brain that you're full and don't need to eat more. When you take semaglutide and try to overeat, your body sends a message that says, "That's enough." In essence, it makes you feel full, so you're less likely to binge eat, especially at night when food tends to sit in your stomach.

Semaglutide also slows down digestion, reducing unnecessary snacking throughout the day. By minimizing glucose spikes after meals, it lowers inflammation, which is a crucial step in optimizing your overall health. Moreover, Semaglutide assists in insulin secretion by the pancreas regulates glucose levels in the body and even possesses anti-aging and longevity properties. If you're struggling with weight loss, treatments such as semaglutide can make a substantial difference for you.

In summary, semaglutide helps you lose weight in a few different ways, including:

Clinical trials involving over 1,900 obese adults who were unable to lose five percent of their body weight after a year of treatment with other medications demonstrated that semaglutide increased average weight loss from 2% to 20% over a treatment period of just over one year compared to a placebo.

According to a clinical trial featured in Practice Update, participants regained 11.6% of their lost body weight within a year of discontinuing semaglutide medication and lifestyle intervention. Researchers suggest that this weight gain could be linked to the reversal of the cardiovascular benefits associated with semaglutide treatment, including stable blood sugar levels and blood pressure.

This data underscores the importance of continued medication and ongoing treatment for obesity as a chronic health condition to effectively manage its impact on quality of life and heart health. The key takeaway here is that due to its nature as a weight loss treatment, it's best to take regularly over time for the best results.

That length of time will vary depending on factors such as:

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC on Thursday at 4:51 p.m. in effect until 5:30 p.m. for Cherokee and Spartanburg counties.

Brace for quarter-sized hail (1 inch) and wind gusts of up to 60 mph.

"At 4:51 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located 7 miles northeast of Spartanburg, or near Cowpens, moving east at 10 mph," states the NWS. "Minor hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to trees and power lines."

Locations impacted by the warning include Spartanburg, Cowpens, Mayo, Pacolet Mills, Cedar Springs, Thicketty and Cowpens National Battlefield.

The NWS states, "For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Brief damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines over small areas. A brief period of large hail is also possible. Seek shelter inside an interior room. Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning."

This warning is in effect until 5:30 p.m.

Lightning strikes the United States about 25 million times a year. Most of the strikes occur in the summer, killing 20 people each year, according to the NWS. Chance of lightning increases as a thunderstorm approaches and peaks when the storm is overhead. It diminishes as the storm moves away.

Here are suggestions for staying safe during a thunderstorm:

What is hydroplaning?

Hydroplaning is the term for when a vehicle begins sliding uncontrollably on wet roads.

This happens when water in front of the tire builds up faster than the vehicle's weight can push water out of the way. The water pressure then causes the vehicle to rise and slide on a thin layer of water between the tires and the road, making the driver lose control. Hydroplaning is most commonly attributed to three factors:

SPARTANBURG — Katelyn Ashley has enjoyed visiting businesses in downtown Spartanburg since moving to the city in April.

Coming from Bay St. Louis, Miss., Hub City is much larger than her former town. She's already found a few favorites on West Main Street, including Delaney's Irish Pub.

Ashley is ready to add another favorite restaurant to her list — The Flying Biscuit Cafe. The new breakfast and brunch spot opened June 9, and Ashley was among the first to try the menu.

It was a celebration of sorts on opening day. Mayor Jerome Rice and Councilman Jamie Fulmer were joined by representatives from OneSpartanburg to mark the occasion. Offering Southern-inspired food, The Flying Biscuit in Spartanburg is at 121 W. Main St., in space formerly occupied by The Tulip Tree.

Menu items will include stuffed French toast and the Piedmont Omelet. Founded in 1993, Flying Biscuit Cafe has 39 locations nationwide. The Atlanta-based company has locations in Charleston, Columbia, Greenville and Mount Pleasant.

Chris Atchison, a local entrepreneur, owns and operates the new restaurant that serves breakfast during all business hours.

"I am excited to bring The Flying Biscuit to Spartanburg," Atchison said. "It's something that downtown has needed for a while. There's really been no other breakfast options."

Atchison's interest in one day owning and operating a Flying Biscuit Cafe started when he was a college student at Morris Brown College in Atlanta. He frequented the restaurant there and soon became a loyal customer. The food left a lasting impression. He's started several other businesses in Spartanburg and Greenville, including coffee shops, sports bars and meat-and-three restaurants.

Now was the time to follow his dream, he said. For Atchison, opening day was the culmination of hard work. The opening was delayed for almost a month to have more time to get everything organized. After a brief ribbon cutting, the line stretched outside the door with customers eager to try something new.

"This is a new journey for me," Atchison said. "I am thankful for all the support in getting to opening day."

Operating hours for the new location will be from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Other menu items include bacon-wrapped shrimp, creamy grits, burgers, wraps and mimosas. Each Flying Biscuit location bakes more than 5,000 biscuits each week.

There are Flying Biscuit Cafe locations also in Charlotte, Raleigh and Knoxville. The downtown Spartanburg location is expected to draw office workers from around Morgan Square and comes amid the heart of the city transforming into an entertainment and dining destination, complete with a minor league baseball stadium. Fulmer said he anticipates more new business downtown.

500 Ammons Road, Spartanburg, SCThe City of Spartanburg’s airport park is located right by the Downtown Memorial Airport, and the park is aviation-themed! In addition to the fun airplane theme, there is also a splash pad.

Note: The splash pad is slick so we recommend water shoes that grip well and to watch your kids carefully to make sure that they don’t run in the area.

Have you visited Tyger River Park in Spartanburg County? This giant park is home to ball fields, a huge playground, a splash pad, and more. Read on to hear everything parents need to know about Tyger River Park.

You definitely want to make the time to check out Tyger River Park operated by Spartanburg County Parks. It is located at 179 Dillard Road in Duncan, South Carolina. Don’t let appearances deceive you- there is more to this park than perfectly kept baseball fields. It’s a playground experience for all ages, especially with the brand-new renovation of 2023.

When you first enter the gates to Tyger River Park, you won’t be able to see the playground areas from the road that encircles the enclosure. Look for the tall tower in the center of the grounds. The brand-new playgrounds and giant sandbox are located on either side of it. Follow the signs to the Clubhouse and park there. From the parking lot, it’s a short walk to the play areas. You can get a sense of the park’s scale and use this handy park map to help plan your day.

There is truly play equipment for all ages.

The first playground is geared for younger children, toddlers to preschool age. There are slides, swings, play horses, and even a cute little house to stoke the imagination. This playground is within sight of the giant sandbox, too. Kids can bring their own sand toys or just play around in Duncan’s version of “the beach.”

The location is perfect for smaller children to independently play between the sandbox and the playground, and benches are provided for adult supervision if you are lucky enough to get a chance to sit down. The new playground includes shaded benches for parents as well.

The second playground is much bigger and caters to children ages 5-12. The many slides available are taller and faster than the smaller playground and climbing features are more challenging. There are also swings in this area.

The playground has five benches with shade and is covered in astroturf.

Splash Pad at Tyger River Park

The splash pad is open 9 am to 8 pm between Memorial Day to Labor Day, but they are opening early in 2025 on May 1st! Located just past the playground area (opposite the direction of the Clubhouse), kids can easily go from the playground to the splash pad to cool off and back to the playground. Double bonus: the splash pad is fenced in.

The bathrooms for the public are located on the side of the Clubhouse building. They were clean and well-stocked with soap and both paper towels and air dryers. As parents, you can never underestimate the awesomeness of a park restroom that doesn’t make you cringe

A Couple of Considerations for Tyger River Park

The new playground has benches with shade and the shade screen above the sandbox does provide some relief but the playgrounds have no shade. Especially in the hot days of summer, it’s important to bring sunscreen and water. On warmer days, it is definitely best to plan on arriving early in the morning or in the late afternoon/early evening or spend hotter parts of the day at the splash pad.

Tyger River is a big park and the playgrounds are on opposite sides of the tower, which can make it hard to watch kids of different age groups. So plan on negotiating how much time you will spend on which playground or bring a second adult for help with supervision.

With proper planning, Tyger River Park is a must-do for a positive play experience for all ages. And we just love the new play equipment! With so much to do, the kids will be occupied for hours, so don’t forget to pack snacks and water or bring along a lunch to eat at the nearby picnic tables.

SPARTANBURG — It’s common knowledge that Spartanburg County is steeped in Revolutionary War history.

It's more than just the site of battles or a prime place where Patriot soldiers were recruited. Even the city and county of Spartanburg take their names from the Spartan Regiment.

The unit was an independent militia formed in late 1775. It fought in pivotal conflicts throughout the Revolutionary War, including the Battle of Cowpens in 1781. It was separate from the Continental Army that represented all 13 colonies — and later the United States — during the war.

Col. John Thomas founded the regiment. It’s likely either he or William Henry Drayton, a Charleston planter and revolutionary, originated the name for the regiment, according to Brad Steinecke, assistant director of local history at Spartanburg County Public Libraries.

Steinecke said that the Spartan Regiment references Sparta, a warrior society in ancient Greece known for its ferocity and rigor. He added that it could also refer to the fact that the region around what is now Spartanburg was very rural and sparsely populated at the time.

Spartans are still known as “warlike and fierce and willing to defend their homeland with zeal,” Steinecke said.

Soon after the end of the war, Spartanburg County formed in 1785, taking its name from the regiment. A settlement of the same name sprang up around a courthouse, however, the municipality of Spartanburg did not incorporate until decades later in 1831. It was the first one incorporated in the county.

Where Hub City, Sparkle City nicknames originated

After incorporation, the city would come to be known by multiple nicknames, including Hub City. The nickname was no organic accident. Instead, it was an intentional marketing decision. Steinecke said that by the 1920s, several railroad lines passed through Spartanburg.

Around that time, the chamber of commerce and other civic groups launched a branding campaign highlighting the city’s connections to the region and nationwide. The campaign’s tagline called Spartanburg “the Hub City of the Southeast,” Steinecke said.

If one looked at a map of Spartanburg at the time, the railroads shooting from the city also resembled the hub of a wheel.

Before receiving the Hub City moniker in the early 1900s, the tagline associated with the city was more mundane. It was dubbed “the city of success,” according to Steinecke.

However, the Hub City nickname wasn’t always destined to last for more than a century. Steinecke said it had largely fallen out of use by the 1960s and ‘70s. Bookseller and former journalist Betsy Teter claims that the Hub City Writers Project helped resurrect the nickname with its founding in 1995.

“The Hub City era was over … until a little group of writers gathered in a coffee shop on Morgan Square in the mid-1990s and decided to resurrect this name,” Teter wrote in an article for the Spartanburg Herald-Journal in 2015. “Hub City was a link to our past. But it also was how we would stake our claim to a new Spartanburg — culturally creative, progressive and a beacon for writers and artists.”
