What is Sculptra?

Volume loss occurs during the natural aging process, particularly in the mid-face as the cheeks become hollow and flat. Kenneth Farr, M.D. uses Sculptra Aesthetic, a poly-L-lactic acid-based dermal filler that allows for longer-lasting and deeper volume replacement in the cheeks. In addition to improving the fullness of the cheeks, Sculptra can decrease the appearance of shallow to deep lines and wrinkles, like the nasolabial folds (sometimes known as laugh or smile lines) that go from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. With a unique gel formula, Sculptra prompts the natural collagen production in your body so even if you stop treatments, your skin will be healthier compared to before. Schedule an appointment for a consultation at VIP Cosmetic Surgery in Bluffton, SC to learn more about the advantages of this injectable treatment.

how does sculptra work?

Following your consultation to determine your unique treatment plan, you can receive your Sculptra injections in one of our procedure rooms. First, the skin will be cleansed and a numbing cream or local anesthetic will be applied to the designated injection sites. Once you are prepared, Sculptra is injected into the deeper skin layers and massaged for even distribution. For best results, Dr. Farr suggests a series of four treatments each performed at VIP Cosmetic Surgery about three weeks apart.

After your appointment, you may have mild to moderate redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection sites, which should subside naturally in 3 – 5 days. To ease discomfort, you can apply cold packs to the injected areas. Many patients will see visible improvements almost immediately after their Sculptra injections with full results seen after a few months, as the natural production of collagen strengthens the skin. If performed in a series of injections over 3 – 4 months, results can last up to two years.

Sculptra FAQ

How much does Sculptra cost?
Sculptra injections can range in price based on how many units are needed to achieve your goals. Some patients may also need a series of treatments in order to receive the best results. During your consultation, your injector will discuss your goals and tailor a treatment plan for your specific budget.

Are Sculptra injections safe?
Along with approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Sculptra has a long history of safety worldwide since 1999. Side effects are rare and usually mild, including slight pain, bruising, swelling, and/or redness. Occasionally, a bump may develop if pressure is put on the injected area. Contact us if you experience any abnormal or lasting side effects.

What is the best age to receive Sculptra?
Sculptra is beneficial for individuals who are wanting to reduce the visibility of lines and wrinkles. It can specifically be used to correct wrinkles on the chin, lines surrounding the mouth, and the nasolabial folds. Commonly, men and women get Sculptra between ages 30 – 55. However, it is also common for patients who are younger and older than this range to receive injections.

How long do results last?
For longer-lasting results, some patients may need to receive multiple treatments. Compared to other dermal fillers, Sculptra usually lasts longer, with results that can last for up to two years. Since Sculptra continues to increase the natural production of collagen in your skin, results may take time to appear.
