What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing at VIP Cosmetic Surgery is a nonsurgical aesthetic procedure that utilizes pulsating beams of ablative and/or non-ablative laser to remove damaged skin. It's typically performed to soften the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, brown spots, and other skin issues. Also known as a laser peel, laser skin resurfacing is an effective procedure for patients desiring clearer, younger-looking skin. Laser peels can also be adjusted to treat your unique concerns and skin type to achieve the best results possible. It's important to note that laser skin resurfacing does require some downtime. During your initial consult, medical director Dr. Kenneth Farr will be happy to answer all your questions and determine if laser skin resurfacing is right for you. how does Laser Skin Resurfacing work?
Depending on the intensity of your laser peel, medication may be prescribed prior to the treatment to help reduce discomfort so you can relax throughout your appointment. In other cases, a topical anesthetic may be sufficient to numb the treatment areas. If a large area is being treated, some type of sedation may be required.
Throughout the procedure, you will relax in a comfortable chair while the laser glides over your skin, precisely targeting the specific sections for rejuvenation. You may feel heat from the laser, followed by cold air from the system's built-in cooling device. The laser works to eliminate damaged skin cells while also stimulating natural collagen production.
Following laser skin resurfacing, a healing ointment will be applied to the dermis, and you'll be free to go home. Common side effects include redness, swelling, burning, itching, and irritation. Depending on the type of resurfacing treatment, you can expect your recovery to take anywhere from several days to several weeks. Over this time, the skin will crust, flake, and peel off. After the peeling is finished, your skin will look and feel amazing.
