What are Chemical Peels?

At VIP Cosmetic Surgery, medical director Dr. Kenneth Farr is excited to offer chemical peels to Bluffton and Hilton Head patients. Chemical peels are skin treatments that use exfoliating solutions to address wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, acne scars, and more. The medical-grade solutions remove damaged dermal cells, causing the uppermost skin layer to crust, flake, and peel off. The results reveal radiantly youthful skin. Chemical peels are available in three strengths: light, medium, and deep. To learn more, call our med spa in Bluffton or Hilton Head, SC today.

how does a chemical peel work?

All chemical peels are performed at VIP Cosmetic Surgery in Bluffton and Hilton Head, SC. They take about 30 – 90 minutes to complete, depending on whether you are treating the face and/or neck. First, the skin will be cleansed and your customized solution will be applied to the skin. The solution will need to set for a short period of time and then will be washed off, following the application of a neutralizing agent.

Over the next few days up to a few weeks, you can expect the skin to peel and feel itchy. This means that the chemical peel is working. It's essential to keep in mind that no matter how badly your skin itches throughout the healing process, it's not good to peel the skin off. This can cause unintended scarring to the skin. Depending on the type of peel you receive, optimal results generally occur after about 2 – 3 weeks.
